Aldo M. Bertera was a visionary entrepreneur, dedicated civic leader, and philanthropist whose legacy continues to enrich our community. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Aldo A. and Anna S. (Kurzawa) Bertera, he spent most of his life in West Springfield. A graduate of West Springfield High School and the General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan, Aldo's passion for the automotive industry was evident from a young age.
At just 13 years old, he began working at his father's service station on Route 20, cultivating a work ethic and love for automobiles that would define his career. In 1973, alongside his brother Robert, Aldo opened the first Bertera dealership-Bertera Subaru in West Springfield. His relentless dedication and business acumen led to expanding the Bertera Auto Group, which now encompasses multiple dealerships and collision centers
Aldo's commitment extended beyond business; he was deeply invested in his community. He served on the West Springfield Planning Board, Conservation Commission, and Bylaws Committee and was an active Town Meeting member. His involvement with the Massachusetts Auto Dealers Association, West Springfield Rotary Club, Elks Club, and the West Springfield Chamber of Commerce showcased his dedication to civic engagement.
